Overview

The General tab is used to set user preferences for:

  • Filtering search results by facility, diagnosis code, procedure code, and person

  • Displaying a confirmation message when exiting Connect Back Office

  • Setting the font-size text displays

  • Toggling the Status Bar on and off

  • Forcing the [ENTER] key on the number keypad to behave identically to the [TAB] key
  • Forcing all typing input to be uppercase

  • Choosing whether to embed an Image Viewer within the Coding form and charge entry pages

User preferences cannot be overridden and will remain in effect for this workstation until it is changed in Preferences. Anyone who logs onto this workstation will use these preferences as the default values.

The general preferences affect multiple Connect platform applications. For example, if you change the point size in Back Office to 18, the point size will change to 18 in Back Office and Front Office.

Note also that the Status Bar Visible option only applies to Back Office.

How to Get Here?

From the Menus:Via Shortcut Keys: 
  1. Open the File menu and select Preferences.
  2. The Preferences page opens, displaying the General tab (default).

Search Filters Section  

 

Make Facility fields search using "contains" logic (as opposed to "starts with")CheckboxNo

Includes search results that contain any portion of the typed input.

For example, if you input son, search results could include:

  • Robertson
  • Patterson
  • Sonfield
Make Diagnosis Code fields search using "contains" logic (as opposed to "starts with") CheckboxNo

For example, if you input SQU, search results could include:

  • Mosquito-borne viral encephalitis, unspecified

For example, if you input TRANS, search results could include:

Limits search results to only those that match the typed input exactly.

For example, inputting Michael F would not return a search result of Michael Fox, because Michael Fox and Michael F do not match character for character.
Make Referring Provider search also match on specialty CheckboxNoSearch results are limited to only those that agree with the selected name input options (above) AND the specialty filter type matches the specialty listed on a potential provider's Back Office provider profile.
Exit Options Section    
Show confirmation message when exiting the application CheckboxNoDetermines whether a confirmation message appears when the user exits the application. By default, this option is checked.
Font Options Section    
Point Size Drop DownYesDetermines how large or small letter and number characters will appear in the application. The larger the Point Size, the larger the characters. By default, this option is set to 11.
Status Bar Visible Section    
Back Office CheckboxNoToggles the Status Bar at the bottom of the Back Office application window. By default, this option is checked; however, in some instances it may be beneficial to hide the Status Bar, e.g., if you can't see all form data.
Keyboard Options Section    
Numeric keypad (ENTER) acts like (TAB) key CheckboxNoForces the [ENTER] key on the number pad of keyboard (not the [ENTER] key in the alpha-character area) to behave as the [TAB] key. This makes for easier tabbing through fields when entering data.
Force all typing to Uppercase CheckboxNoThis option sets all typing to uppercase, regardless of whether Caps Lock is enabled.
Embedded Image Viewer Options Section    
Show embedded image viewer Drop DownYes

Determines whether the embedded image viewer in both charge entry pages and the coding form is:

  • Disabled - In a separate window

  • Right Side - On the right-half of the current page

  • Left Side - On the left-half of the current page

Note: Even if you opt to embed the Image Viewer, you may also access it in a separate window by going to File > Launch Image Viewer.
